Custom Home Building Process

Every building site will have advantages and disadvantages that will affect the type of home that can be built as well as the overall cost of your home. If you have not yet purchased your lot, Scott is glad to look at potential sites with you and give you an honest builder’s evaluation of the build ability of the site.

Once your site has been selected, your next step will be to design a home for the site that:

1) Takes advantage of the lot – topography, natural features, views, orientation, etc.
2) Appeals to your architectural sensibilities
3) Suits your lifestyle
4) Fits your budget

Scott is glad to collaborate with your architect or designer to accomplish these goals as directly as possible.  If you do not have an architect or designer, Scott also works with his son Caleb Norris at Norris Design Productions and can provide all your design needs from bid sets thru 3D renderings to the final set of “permit-ready” construction documents.

Once the plans have been created, Scott will bid your new home. If the bid is satisfactory, a contract will be created with a construction schedule and selections schedule. Once this is signed and financing is in place, construction will begin.

There are a lot of decisions to be made throughout the construction process. The selection schedule will list all those decisions with the dates that they have to be finalized in order to keep the construction schedule on track. Joelle – our Design Coordinator – will work closely with you and aid you in any way necessary to arrive at the uniquely right selection for your home. She will help you assess the quality and value of the products you are considering and make sure that they are ordered and delivered to the project on time.
